Day Surgery Unit
The day surgery unit is designed to return the patient home the same day. This service is used primarily for minor procedures with a benefit of greater convenience and cost-savings to patients. Our unit has a capacity for eight patients with two private rooms and three semiprivate rooms. The unit is staffed by registered nurses and we encourage family to stay with our patients during the preparation and discharge phase.
Prior to surgery, patients may be scheduled to meet with the anesthesiologist and registered nurse. If required, pre-op testing will be done on this visit. If you don't come in for a scheduled visit, you will be contacted by phone to obtain information about your medical history and medications.
On the day of surgery, the registered nurse will prepare you for the procedure. Immediately following surgery, you may spend time in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit and then return to Day Surgery. You will receive specific instructions for home care. A follow-up telephone call will be made within 24-48 hours by a registered nurse to check on your progress.
PACU
We are a three bed post anesthesia care unit that gives individualized attention to our patients. The patient is monitored by a registered nurse for a period of time, usually 30-60 minutes following surgery, as the effects of anesthesia resolve. Modern anesthetic agents are very short acting and the patient can usually expect to be fully recovered within an hour. The patient is then returned to the Day Surgery unit to prepare for discharge home or will be admitted to the Medical/Surgical unit for further observation as determined by their doctor.
Endoscopy/Special Procedures Services include:
