Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
• Works within a team and individually to collaborate with municipalities, schools, businesses, health care professionals, and work sites, among others, to improve policies and environments that reduce the use of tobacco and nicotine-containing products by youth and adults
• Identifies community needs, contributes to the development of trainings, and provides technical assistance to community partners to change policies and environments.
• Develops implementation strategies and work plans to effect change at the community level.
• Provides direct education to students regarding the risks associated with tobacco use, vaping, and general substance use prevention.
• Collects relevant data to evaluate interventions, reviews secondary data sources and related materials, when appropriate.
• Provides detailed reports to funders and program officers.
• Accurately and clearly communicates to sites and partners.
• Has strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
• The Tobacco Use Prevention Specialist will also provide tobacco cessation treatment and be required to obtain Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification.
Education and/or Experience
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in community health, health education, public
health or other related field.
• Demonstrated experience and proficiency in convening and facilitating
groups to effect policy and environmental changes for population health improvement
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification preferred
• A valid Maine Driver's License
• Experience working with non-profit, government and/or private foundation grants preferred.
