An expedited (fast track) process to sterotactic
biopsy is now available at Redington-Fairview
General Hospital (RFGH) as a service to
our patients in order to reduce the time
between identification of an abnormal mammogram
and biopsy. The biopsy determines if an
abnormality on a mammogram is benign (no
cancer) or malignant (cancer). The purpose
of this expedited process is to alleviate
some anxiety a woman may feel while waiting
to learn whether or not she has cancer.
If you would like more information please
ask your primary care physician or call
our department at 858-2385 and ask to speak
to a mammographer.
Expedite Process
An effort by RFGH to significantly reduce
the time between an abnormal finding suggesting
the need for a biopsy procedure.

We
are currently working to replace all our
diagnostic analog x-ray equipment to digital.
Our first, installed in November 2007, was
a new fluoroscopy suite with a Philips Easy
Diagnost System utilizing the most advanced
digital technology. Philips has a strong
reputation for providing high quality diagnostic
images at the lowest possible exposure.
RFGH is in the process of transitioning
the Imaging Services department from a film
based environment to a digital environment.
With the recent updates in our imaging equipment
it will be possible to eliminate film and
utilize a PACS system (digital storage)
to display and store images. This will allow
for quicker access to images and results
by ordering and referring physicians improving
patient care.
