Special Care Unit

The Special Care Unit is a 6-bed inpatient unit which provides acute care services for the critically ill patient. Those admitted to SCU require treatment for shock states, trauma, MI's, unstable angina, mechanical ventilation, psychiatry, and pediatric conditions such as seizures, respiratory states and dehydration.

All staff are certified in BLS, PALS and ACLS and trained in electrocardioversion, temporary pacemakers, use of nitrates, thrombolytic therapies, oximetry monitoring, and cardiac arrest response.

SCU provides high standards of care with the utmost regard to patient safety and comfort. Individualized plans of care are provided with respect for patient privacy and confidentiality.

The Special Care Unit uses state-of-the-art ventilators, code carts and hemodynamic monitoring equipment.   RFGH's Special Care Unit offers the convenience of tele-ICU with EMMC's Critical Care Connection.
